What are Management Development / Assessment Centres?

Development Centres are designed to guide the personal and professional skills development of managers to enable them to perform their current jobs more effectively and also to prepare individuals for future roles.

Assessment Centres use similar methodologies as development centres, but typically have a pass or fail outcome associated with selection for a job. However, internal applicants who are unsuccessful in an assessment centre can use feedback from observers to aid personal development planning, thus preparing themselves for a future role.

Leadership Development use a range of tools in these centres including psychometric profiling and ability tests, business simulations, individual and group activities, written work, and one-to-one feedback.

Development and assessment centres are offered for first line supervisors, mid-level managers, and senior managers, and appraisal is based around a selection of relevant job competencies, depending on the level of the centre. Leadership Development offer development and assessment centres in both a generic “best practice” format, and also tailor-made solutions for individual business needs.

All centres consist of a small group of between four and eight participants with a dedicated team of role players and observers, who will provide individual feedback in conjunction with a development planning discussion that aims to identify what specific activities will help an individual to develop in particular areas.
