Admission Requirements

Participants: These would be drawn from the junior/mid management ranks of the Consortium members. Both Expatriates and UAE Nationals could apply but participation would be dependant upon a selection process mutually agreed between the University and the Consortium members. The final selection would be the responsibility of the University and Emirates (as the Consortium sponsor) in order to satisfy the requirements of the regulating bodies in UK. The minimum requirements would be:
3 years of managerial experience
First degree from a recognised educational institution or a professional qualification
Pass an Admission Test
Competent in spoken and written English
Consortium members can have their own entry requirements. Based on Emirates experience it is recommended that the following criteria be added:
First level of managerial grade upwards
A minimum of 2 years service
A clean disciplinary record
A superior performance
A line manager’s approval/support (preferably at a GM or Senior Management level)

Delivery:
A total of 13 units would form the majority of the MBA with a capstone business project equivalent to another two units. The delivery of the material would be based on each unit requiring a level of self directed study, face to face contact (with University faculty) and a final assignment and exam. The proposed timetable flow for this is as follows:

Participants receive reading material and have three weeks to complete.

A three-day block of lectures then held in Dubai (at Emirates Aviation College or Consortium member’s facilities.) Proposed to run over a Tue/Wed/Thurs – 0800 to 1700

Four weeks to work on an assignment and preparation prior to exams.

Exam sat in Dubai under Emirates supervision and materials for next unit handed out at conclusion of exam. Exams are normally scheduled on Friday mornings.

Time Commitments:
To reduce the impact on work time it is proposed that the 13 teaching blocks be taught over Tue/Wed/Thurs. In the entire two and half-year period the impact on participant’s productivity would equate to:

26 working days (13 x Tue/Wed) dedicated to lectures
13 weekends (13 x Thurs) dedicated to lectures
12 Fridays (2 hours on each) for exams

This does not include time required for self-study, local tutorials and preparation as that varies depending on the participants. These figures are common across most MBA programmes.
