THE GLOBAL AVIATION MANAGEMENT CONSORTIUM
An Executive Educational Offering By Emirates Aviation College and Cornell University
Today's rapidly changing Air Transport business landscape demands a new approach to developing its future leaders. Research shows that top executives in multi-national companies in a number of aviation-related sectors around the world believe that the following challenges reveal leadership shortages that put their future business success at risk:
- increased competitive pressures
- rapidly changing market and aero-political conditions
- failure to innovate
- Consistently satisfying changing customer expectations
- Succession planning and development of internal executive competence
This shortage of leadership talent comes at a time when leadership is becoming more complex. Leaders today must possess:
- business acumen to set and implement complex strategies across multiple business units
- an understanding of how day to day decisions impact the overall performance of the company
- leadership skills required to engage and develop others
- willingness to take value-based actions with limited information
Shortages of leadership talent and the complexity of leadership skills that are required are driving growth in development activities for executives, managers, and high potentials. These executive educational investments are intended to create internal bench strength based on unity and alignment within management teams as well as enhanced individual skills and abilities. As a result, companies turn to world-class educational institutions for more tailored and customized learning experiences that are difficult to obtain locally or may be impossible to produce internally.
The Emirates-Cornell Global Aviation Management Consortium is a special purpose, executive leadership training programme designed to improve the operational and financial capabilities of the early to mid-career air transport executive.
The curriculum borrows heavily from the successful programmes provided by both Emirates Aviation College's Aviation MBA Programme as well as Cornell University's Industrial Labor Relations MBA programme. Added to this foundation are elements of industry guest lecture, case study and small-group discussion and analysis.
The course extends over a year of study and will culminate in the awarding of a prestigious certification: Graduate - Global Aviation Management Consortium
The Programme is divided into four "modules" taught at different locations around the world to take advantage of the availability of local Aerospace Industry executive lecturers as well as to expose the cohort members to varying cultural and business experiences. Cohorts are restricted to 25 per year.
Applications for selection are accepted once a year in the Spring and must be accompanied by the student's corporate sponsor's agreement to assist in the development of their executive participants. Participants are restricted to three per corporate sponsor.
Once accepted, the participant is assigned a Faculty Mentor who will assist in the design and oversight of the participant's programme of study. This ensures the executive's exact educational requirements and that of his corporate sponsor are met.
